Colored Angora GoatsColored Angora Goats are still rare. For hundreds of years, any Angora with color was culled as undesirable. Only in the last few years have these been retained, and now bred to produce color. These unique Angoras provide naturally colored fiber to hand spinners, doll makers and craft makers. These fibers create beautiful products and yarns free of chemical dyes. These colored Angora Goats come in a variety of colors and color combinations. Some are solid colors like Black or Red. Most have mixed colors like Black/Gray or Gray/Brown. These mixed colors create a beautiful heather tweed yarn. Only a few thousand colored Angoras exist. Because the Colored Angora is rare, their value is high. Some people have started to breed non-Angora Goats with their white Angoras. They produce a mixed breed goat that resembles a Colored Angora, but the hair fiber has less character, crimp and fineness. The Colored Angora Goats offered at Three Willows are true Colored Angora Goats, not recent cross-breeds with other goats of color. The hair is exceptional, light and soft. The breeding stock is selected for its quality and breed characteristics. The Colored Angora Goat Registry was opened in 1999. We have several goats that have been accepted into the registry and hopefully will have more animals inspected and accepted in 2000.
